The History of The Cheffing Don

Rooted in Culture. Inspired by Change. Built on Greatness.

The Cheffing Don was born from a personal journey, a passion for Jamaican culture and a desire to make delicious, satisfying plant-based food accessible to everyone.

Born in Clarendon, Jamaica, our founder experienced firsthand the challenges of transitioning to a vegan lifestyle. With limited options for tasty, wholesome meals, local fruit vendors often became his go-to source for food.

Rather than accepting those limitations, he decided to create something different — flavourful, nourishing and satisfying plant-based meals for people searching for better choices.

Where It All Began

In 2014, that vision began taking shape in Kingston through work at Kingston Dub Club and food pop-ups at cultural events including Dub School, Sankofa Sessions, Inner City Dub and Nanook.

These experiences brought food, music and community together, laying the foundation for what would become The Cheffing Don.

The Restaurant Takes Shape — 2017

In 2017, The Cheffing Don opened its first restaurant on Maeven Avenue, off Hope Road in Kingston, transforming a personal vision into a place where people could enjoy authentic, flavourful Jamaican plant-based cuisine.

A Proud Milestone — 2018

Just one year after opening, The Cheffing Don received a nomination for Best Vegan Restaurant at the Jamaica Food and Beverage Awards, marking an important achievement in our journey.

Growing Through the Years

As the business evolved, we relocated to 1B Manning’s Hill Road, where our connection to music and community continued to flourish through Greatness Fridayz Live.

Following the sale of that property, The Cheffing Don found a new home on Constant Spring Road, where we continue sharing our passion for great-tasting, 100% plant-based Jamaican cuisine.

Greatness Fridayz Live

Where Food, Music & Community Came Together

Born at The Cheffing Don’s former location at 1B Manning’s Hill Road, Greatness Fridayz Live created a platform for young and emerging Jamaican artists to showcase their talents. More than just an event, it brought together live music, culture, creativity and great plant-based food, celebrating the spirit of community. Though the event is no longer running, our vision to bring Greatness Fridayz Live back remains alive.
